What It Means to Live Unfettered
Welcome to the very first entry of the Beyond the Lines blog!
For a long time, I lived a life defined by structure, discipline, and the protective layers of a military uniform. As a U.S. Marine, "camouflage" wasn't just what I wore; it was a way of being…strong, resilient, and guarded. But as I transitioned into civilian life and began navigating my journey as a veteran and a mother, I realized that many of us carry a different kind of camouflage. We hide our pain, our health struggles, and our deepest dreams behind layers of "I'm fine."
When I sat down to define what my art and my mission stood for, one word kept rising to the surface: Unfettered.

What is "Unfettered Art"?
To be unfettered means to be unrestrained. It means to be free from the chains, masks, or labels that hold us back. In my studio, when I pick up a brush to work with acrylics, oils, or watercolors, those layers start to fall away. The canvas doesn't care about my past or my physical limitations; it only cares about the truth I’m willing to put down in color.
Unfettered Artis about more than just painting a pretty picture. It is about:
•Permission to Heal: Giving yourself the space to process trauma without judgment.
•Release: Letting go of the "camouflage" we’ve worn for far too long.
•Boldness: Having the courage to use bright reds, deep blues, and shimmering golds to express who you truly are.
A Space for Everyone
Whether you are a fellow veteran, a caregiver, someone battling a chronic illness like Lupus, or simply a soul looking for a way to breathe a little easier, this space is for you. You don’t need to be a "professional artist" to be here. You only need the willingness to pick up a brush and see where it takes you.
Through this blog, I’ll be sharing my studio secrets, tips for your own healing journey, and updates on my upcoming book, Out of the Blue. I want to show you exactly how to take the steps toward your own creative freedom.
My Invitation to You
I invite you to join me on this journey. Let’s trade the muted tones of our struggles for a life lived in full color. It’s time to shed the weight, pick up the palette, and live a life that is—finally—unfettered.
What is one "layer" you are ready to let go of today?
